Thanks for your endorsement and / or contribution, your grass roots effort - your support shown in so many encouraging, giving and generous ways!

Thanks to all those who voted for me, giving me the opportunity to make a difference for the great city I love, my chosen home, Miami Beach.

As with any major undertaking, serving well will be a team effort.
I will continue to look for the support of many dear friends, family, supporters and all who believe in me and are hoping for improvements in our great city through my highly visible efforts.  Many prefer to work behind the scenes and share their ideas and encouragement that way.  Others, such as myself work ok in the spotlight and under scrutiny.  I know many of you will be watching to see what I do and I don't want to disappoint you.

To see the long list of individuals and businesses who supported my campaign as well as letters, emails and words of support from Mayor Matti Bower, Florida Representative Richard Steinberg, Commissioner Deede Weithorn, Commissioner Victor Diaz, Alex Fernandez, Henry Stolar, Grace Calvani, Elsa Urquiza, Heather Dobb, Michael Capponi, Steve & Jacque Hertz, Joy Spill and Luiz Rodrigues.

My campaign e-team will be adding others wo endorsed me and contributed to my campaign shortly as well as the many letters and emails received.

Michael,

As per our conversation, this email is to confirm that I endorse your candidacy for the Miami Beach City Commission, group III.

-Alex Fernández

"Why I am voting for Michael Gongora" by Grace Calvani, Long time Miami Beach Resident & Business Leader

People ask me why I am voting for Michael Gongora. I give them many reasons.

Michael is a candidate with experience who will help strengthen our economy.  As a business advocate myself, I meet candidates with new ideas to move our economy forward, and let’s face it – they all want to make a difference.  However, it takes a very special individual to put the entire community to work together to positively impact our community. That’s Michael Gongora!

Michael Gongora is the best candidate for City of Miami Beach Commission, Group 3, to help the most people in these difficult times.  As a City Commissioner, Michael dealt with complex and serious issues and gained experience in solving them.  That’s why experience counts. When Michael tackles an issue, he focuses on the underlying causes of the problems until successful resolution and stays on target.  Michael always seeks solutions that go to the root of the problem.  As a City Commissioner, he was forward thinking when he created and chaired Miami Beach's first Green/Sustainability Committee.  This committee brought about an audit on city energy use that  was good for the environment and saved the city and our residents tax dollars.

If you vote for Michael you are electing a results-oriented leader who brings smart ideas to the table and makes well-researched, forward-thinking decisions. As our Commissioner, Michaelpushed tirelessly to clean our city’s streets, beaches and commercial corridors, keep public safety at the top of his agenda, supported special arts and cultural events that generated revenue for our city and hospitality industry and endorsed new business ventures between the City of Miami Beach and private corporations that created new jobs for our residents.  Michael strongly supported the Shops at 5th & Alton which created more than 350 new jobs and brought additional convenience to our residents and visitors.

Our choice is absolutely clear:  With Michael Gongora on the Miami Beach City Commission we all win.  Please join me in endorsing Michael today.

Why I'm Endorsing & Supporting Michael Gongora for Miami Beach Commissioner by Elsa Urquiza, Lifelong Miami Beach Resident and Former Miami Beach Commission Candidate

I am endorsing and supporting Michael Gongora for Miami Beach Commissioner because I believe Michael’s experience, talent and commitment make all the difference.  If any of the candidates were applying for a job, a positive attitude would go a long way but in the end, Michael’s overall skills combined with his great attitude make the difference.

Michael is as different from the other candidates for Miami Beach Commissioner as his fingerprints.  His tenacious attitude toward service is second to none.  Michael’s positive words and actions have helped so many get where they needed to go.  As President of the Miami Beach Bar Association, he achieved his stated goal of re-opening the North Beach Pro Bono Law Clinic where he personally and actively serves the needs of others.  He will give us dedicated leadership.

Michael's initiative towards our environment, his love for historic preservation and his vision for a better future for Miami Beach distinguish him from all the other candidates.   He will use his experiences to help us by representing our voice.   A dream alone will not bring success.  Many have a dream but Michael has the skills, natural talent and ten years of real experience in serving.  Just look at the "About Michael" page on his website – michaelgongora.com for a run-down of his credentials.  Look at his slide show on the Welcome Page to see a small part of his contributions to us.

Michael has a good attitude, has developed competence and gained experience.  He is continually moving forward, continually learning and applying lessons learned.  His approach to life is optimistic.  He makes the best of everything.  Michael says, “I expect good things and frequently receive them”.  I think he is being modest, more often than not, receiving the good things he seeks.

Please join me in choosing the most competent person for the job of Miami Beach Commissioner – Michael Gongora!

The name we know – The experience we need

Michael
,
I just wanted you to know that I was very impressed by you at the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club. I had always known you to be a nice person, involved with the environment, but for the first time I saw how truly effective you can be as a Commissioner. It was the first time I had seen you speak politically and I really appreciate how straightforward and logical your values and thoughts are.

Please let me know if I can help with your campaign.

Heather Dopp

Dear friend:

I urge you to vote for Michael Gongora tomorrow in the Group 3 City Commission race.  Michael is a long-term Miami Beach resident who has served our community in various leadership roles – in the political, civic, charitable, legal and business arenas.  He is a former City Commissioner, Design Review Board member, and Zoning Board of Adjustment member.

Current MB Commissioners Deede Weithorn and Jerry Libbin, past City Commissioner and current State Representative Richard Steinberg, and past County Commissioner and former Miami-Dade County Democratic chair Jimmy Morales have all endorsed Michael and are supporting his campaign.  They all recognize that in these turbulent times we need the experience and leadership that Michael Gongora can provide.

I worked closely with Michael in the Miami Beach Bar Association and know him to be sensitive to the needs of individuals of all ages, races, religions and national origins.

I am forwarding to you an email from the Michael Gongora campaign, which contains a link to his website.  I hope you will take a look at it, decide for yourself, and join me in voting for Michael Gongora.

Joy Spill

Dear All,

The Miami Beach Tennis Players Association has extensively attended meetings, talked and met with candidates, and after great thought and consideration recommends the following for election as they support tennis in our community, are qualified and hard working, and have and will continue to make Miami Beach a better place to live.

 .........

Group 3:           Michael Gongora

Please vote!  It is very important to the effectiveness and success of our present and future tennis facilities and strong community in the City of Miami Beach!!

Best to all,

 Rebecca Boyce, President

Dear Neighbors and Friends:

This year’s elections are expected to garner a very small turnout – probably much fewer than 10,000 votes.  This is another reason why it is absolutely essential to get out and vote this election.  Due my long history as a resident advocate, I have been asked by several individuals, organizations and homeowners associations to state my preferences in this years elections.  I have done so privately and will continue to do so.

I am speaking today as a resident of Middle Beach and telling you why in my opinion it is imperative we elect: Jerry Libbin (Group 1) and Michael Gongora (Group 3) to the Commission

 1. Jerry Libbin and Michael Gongora both stand as advocates for major Traffic Calming initiatives. Their opponents have never even mentioned the subject. We need four votes on the Commission to achieve fundamental results.  With Gongora and Libbin we are half way there.

 2. Historically, both Jerry and Michael supported the residents repeatedly during the very darkest days of our disagreement with La Gorce Country Club. It was at a time when it was not advantageous for Jerry and Michael to do so with the sitting administration so clearly supporting the country club.  Jerry and Michael took a lot of abuse because of the support they demonstrated for our residents.

Jerry and Michael have stood up for our residents in the face of adversity because it was simply the RIGHT thing to do.  Jerry and Michael have fought unpopular battles advocating for the residents well being and safety.  I know both these men well and know they have the courage to fight for us again when it is necessary.

Please, when you vote, cast your votes for the safety of our residents:  Stop the traffic;  Protect our children and pets.  Please vote for our friends by helping to re-elect JERRY LIBBIN (Group 1) and return MICHAEL GONGORA (Group 3).

Thank you for your attention.

Rosemary Hoffman Hansford

Dear Friends,
I am writing this message in reference to my dear friend Michael
Gongora's campaign for Miami Beach Commissioner.

I first met Michael back in 2003, way before he was first elected to the Miami Beach Commission in 2006.  We immediately developed a connection due to his travels to and love for Brazil.  Later on, as our friendship evolved, Michael learned about my passion for the environment and started participating on many of the events I was organizing through my environmental activism.  It didn't take too long for Michael to realize that there was a lot of work that needed to be done in our community in order to make it more sustainable. We realized, then, we both shared a vision of a better, GREENER  Miami Beach and started discussing ways to educate the residents of Miami Beach and visitors so they would adopt more responsible environmental behaviors.

We decided to join forces and developed a strategy to jumpstart an environmental awareness shift in the mind of our community members; and this is exactly what we've done.  And, as a result of his determination, Michael went one step further and created Miami Beach's first Green Committee, now referred to as the Sustainability Committee.

Our goals are slowly being accomplished: reducing the amount of litter on our beautiful beaches, waterways, islands and Biscayne Bay; increasing our City's residential and commercial recycling rates; launching educational campaigns such as the popular Cinema Green, a monthly environmental film series at Cinematheque; and much more.  We still have a long way to go and promise to continue working hard towards greater environmental awareness and a more just and sustainable society. In the interim, we are encouraging our community members to think more about their day by day actions and consider adopting new lifestyle practices that are more environmentally sustainable:
recycling more, conserving water, saving energy, supporting green products, using re-usable shopping bags, etc.

We are both “green enthusiasts” and we won’t give up until we see the clean, green and safe Miami Beach we dream it can be.  In fact, I’m supporting Michael Gongora for Miami Beach Commissioner not only because we are friends but because I know our environment will come first with Michael.

I thank you for your attention and hope to count on your vote for Michael during the upcoming November election.

Best,
Luiz Rodrigues
Proud supporter and friend of Michael Gongora

Subject: COMMISSION RACE

Dear Friend-

One year ago, this country was elated in the hope that the page had been turned regarding the level at which public discourse and elections would be conducted.  Indeed, the principal exponent of this aspiration continues to conduct himself accordingly as our new president.

However, political operatives from that Magic City across the bay continue to turn a deaf ear to such exhortations.  For them, its business as usual; and another round of snarky cartoons designed to tear down anyone who refuses to hire them. Almost nowhere is this more obvious than in Miami Beach.  Almost daily, we are treated to cartoon re-runs of a photo- shopped Michael Gongora appearing in political sitcoms.  Almost never do they attack Mr. Gongora's credentials or ability to actually DO the job.  They sick Godzilla on him. They think we're stupid. What else could explain it? Perhaps that's all they have to work with.

In contrast, we have Alex Fernandez. He has some driving issues as well. But he's a nice young fellow, who has chosen Miami Beach as a good place to become a politician. This is admirable.  Hopefully, Alex will also avail himself of the many educational opportunities in the area in preparation for employment as well. In a few years, he will be qualified and electable.

Meanwhile, Miami Beach is facing a serious recession and is in need of immediate professional talent with government experience. I would respectfully suggest that Michael Gongora has these abilities; and that he has already paid for his foibles once, when he lost his Commission seat two years ago. Let's not pile on. Lets give Gongora a shot and send Godzilla back over the causeway.  Thanx. Mike Burke

PLEASE FWD TO YOUR LIST ASAP!

In answer to residents asking me how I am voting:

…..

Michael Gongora for the Group III city commission seat.  He is reenergized, focused, and has by far the most experience.

YES on the four ballot questions.

These ballot question votes would:

  • Elevate the city's ethics ordinances to the City Charter.
  • Require voter approval for the sale of certain street ends.
  • Put more restrictions on the city commission if it decides to sell or lease certain categories of city property.
  • Require a public vote to waive the requirement for the New World Symphony to provide parking to replace parking spaces taken out of service for the development.

Frank Del Vecchio

Dear Friends,

I am writing to let you know that my good friend Michael Gongora is running for the Miami Beach Commission in the Group 3 race.  As most of you know, Michael previously served on the Commission in 2006 and 2007 where he stood out as a balanced voice for both the residents and the business communities.

Michael is the most educated, experienced and qualified candidate in this race.  He has proven himself to be the type of leader we can be proud of.  He is a successful attorney who always finds time to give back to the community.  Since barely not being re-elected in 2007 by 33 votes, Michael got to work as Chairman of ECOMB (Environmental Coalition of Miami Beach), serving on the Miami-Dade County Safe Parks' Oversight Committee and as President of the Miami Beach Bar Association.

Let's all support Michael in his race as he will be our voice on the Commission.  Early voting is taking place at both City Hall and the North Beach Public Library this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday from 11a to 3p and there are no lines at all.  Otherwise, you can vote on election day - Tuesday, Nov. 3rd - from 7a to 7p at your regular voting precinct.

Michael has received just about every endorsement in this race including from his former opponent Miami Beach Commissioner Deede Weithorn and Florida State Representative Richard Steinberg.  Please click on the attachment to read what they have to say about Michael.  You may also learn more about Michael and his candidacy by visiting his website at
www.michaelgongora.com.

This year let's make sure we help elect the most qualified candidate - Michael Gongora - who is # 61 on the ballot.

Thank you.

Friendship and esteem without support are just words.

That's why I recommend to everybody to vote and support my good friend
Michael Gongora

who is running for the Miami Beach Commission in the Group 3 race. Michael previously served on the Commission in 2006 and 2007 taking care of both the residents and the business communities. He is the most educated, experienced and qualified candidate in this race.

Please see here the video with the unforgettable City Commission Meeting with Michael Gongora, former mayor David Dermer, new mayor Matti Bower and, of course, me when I got the "Key To The City" of Miami Beach on 2007. He is the one I have to thank about.

Please, come to this event below. I will be there.
Thank you.
